Eating Right.

We all know that a healthy diet is a balanced diet that promotes strength and health. For children, diet plays an even more important role – that of their growth and development, which includes their teeth.

What is a good diet? Again, a good diet is one that is balanced – not too much of one thing (sugars, etc.). This should include the recommended daily servings of breads, meats, vegetables, and fruits.

Keep a journal. Note how often he or she eats snacks such as pretzels, chips, candy and so on. Also note the amount of starches he or she eats in a day. Starches include: breads, crackers and pasta. Too much starch can increase the amount of sugar your child is eating in a given day.
A balanced diet is not a guarantee to a healthy smile. But with proper brushing, flossing and fluoride supplements, the food your child eats can have a positive effect on his or her dental growth. And by reducing the sugar he or she eats, you can help eliminate the risk of cavities.
