Post-sedation

After the use of sedation or anesthesia, there are a few necessary steps that you should take to ensure the wellbeing of your child. The first step just involves a lot of waiting.

Your child won’t go home right away. Until Dr. Bill and his staff are confident that your child is alert and coherent, he or she will remain at the office. This can up to an hour or more depending on the treatment administered. Dr. Bill will tell you how long the sedation may last prior to giving the treatment.

Once home, it’s a good idea to watch your child closely. Of course, sedation and anesthesia are safe when administered via the sedation guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. But Dr. Bill will tell you what to watch for just in case the child needs to be brought back into the office. It’s often advisable to keep your child out of school the rest of the day following sedation or anesthesia.

Call Dr. Bill at 541-672-5535 and ask questions about pre- and post-sedation. He’ll be glad to share his expertise and help you and your child through the dental process.
