Pre-sedation

Prior to the use of conscious sedation or anesthesia, Dr. Bill and his team will give you specific instructions on how to prepare your child for his or her treatment. Here are a few of the general guidelines Dr. Bill will discuss.

Limit food and beverages the night before. Often, Dr. Bill will ask that children abstain from eating or drinking anything 12 hours before treatment. This is often called fasting. While this can be tough on a little one, it will help the sedation process. Often, Dr. Bill will schedule sedation appointments first thing in the morning to make it easier on the child.

Follow Dr. Bill’s instructions. While sedation and anesthesia are safe when properly administered following the sedation guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, it’s important to carefully follow the instructions for your child. Following the treatment, Dr. Bill will give you advice on how to help your child and what to expect during the days after treatment.
