The right equipment for the job.

Once a child’s first teeth start to emerge, it’s time to start brushing, flossing and caring for their teeth. And with today’s tools, the job of properly caring for teeth has become simplified.
A wet washcloth is all you need for your baby. To remove plaque that accumulates on gums, and to acclimate your child to proper mouth hygiene, wipe your baby’s gums with a wet washcloth after each meal. This includes breastfeeding. Doing so will also help them relax when they visit the dentist for the first few time.

Use a cotton swab or child’s toothbrush when teeth first appear. By gently wiping or brushing baby teeth, you reduce the risk of decay. In addition, you’ll help them establish a positive routine that can last a lifetime. Brush and floss your child’s teeth. All it takes is a pea-sized amount of toothpaste and a few minutes of time to help your child avoid the pain of tooth decay. At this age it is important that you brush and floss for them, as they do not yet have the motor skills to properly brush every tooth and floss effectively.

Make it part of their day. Morning, noon and night, make brushing their teeth a part of the day. Children thrive on routine. By adding proper brushing to their routine, you can help them avoid decay in their baby teeth and strengthen their adult teeth.

Set a good example. Let your child see you brushing your teeth. Let them know that it’s not only fun, it can feel good too. Even the fussiest of kids will want to brush their teeth if mom and dad enjoy it too.
